Federal Yoga School Credentials

Federal Yoga Alliance offers five levels of Federal Yoga School (FYS) credentials, ensuring the highest standards in yoga education and ethics. Our certifications provide a strong foundation for schools committed to excellence and tradition. Each credential has specific requirements. Explore the options below to find the right certification for your school.

Core Curriculum for FYS 200 Programs

The FYS 200 program must cover four essential educational categories:

  • Techniques, Training, and Practice
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Yoga Humanities
  • Professional Essentials

Each FYS 200 program is responsible for evaluating the knowledge, skills, and practical experience of its trainees before awarding a 200-hour yoga teacher training certification.

Graduation should be based on demonstrated proficiency, not just completion of training hours. Schools must ensure that certified teachers meet high standards of competence and readiness to teach.

FYS 300: Advanced Yoga Teacher Training

The FYS 300 program is designed to deepen and expand a teacher’s knowledge, refining both practice and instruction beyond the foundational level. This advanced training strengthens teaching skills and enhances the trainee’s understanding of yoga’s core principles.

The curriculum includes the following essential categories:

  • Techniques, Training, and Practice
  • Teaching Methodology
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics
  • Practicum

Each FYS 300 program must evaluate the trainee’s competence, skills, and experience before granting a 300-hour yoga teacher certification.

Graduation is based on demonstrated proficiency—not just attendance—ensuring that every certified teacher upholds the highest standards of knowledge and practice.

FYS 500: Comprehensive Yoga Teacher Training

The FYS 500 program represents the highest standard in yoga teacher training, offering a comprehensive and in-depth education that prepares instructors to teach with confidence and mastery.

The curriculum is structured around the following core categories:

  • Techniques, Training, and Practice
  • Teaching Methodology
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics
  • Practicum

Each FYS 500 training must meet the minimum required hours in these categories. Once the foundational requirements are fulfilled, schools have the flexibility to allocate the remaining hours as needed within these educational areas.

To ensure the highest standards, each program must assess the trainee’s knowledge, skills, and experience before issuing a 500-hour yoga teacher certification.

Certification is granted only to those who demonstrate true proficiency, maintaining the integrity and excellence of the FYS credential.

FYKS: Specialized Yoga Teacher Training for Children

A FYKS Program is designed for yoga teachers who wish to specialize in teaching yoga to children, providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to create safe, engaging, and age-appropriate classes.

The training must include 100 hours of specialized education, covering the following key categories:

  • General Background in Kids Yoga
  • Techniques, Training, and Practice
  • Teaching Methodology for Children
  • Anatomy & Physiology for Growing Bodies
  • Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics for Teaching Kids
  • Practicum and Hands-On Experience

To maintain high-quality education standards, each FYS Kids program must evaluate the trainee’s proficiency before issuing a specialty certification.

Certification is awarded only to those who demonstrate true competence, ensuring that every certified instructor is fully prepared to teach and inspire children through the practice of yoga.

FYS Yoga Therapy: Specialized Training for Yoga Therapists

A FYS Yoga Therapy program is designed for yoga teachers who wish to specialize in therapeutic applications of yoga, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to support individuals with specific physical, mental, and emotional needs.

The training is available in two levels:

FYS Yoga Therapy 100 – A foundational 100-hour certification for those beginning their journey into yoga therapy.

FYS Yoga Therapy 200 – An advanced 200-hour certification for deeper expertise and professional application.

The program must include a comprehensive curriculum covering the following key categories:

  • Foundations of Yoga Therapy
  • Techniques, Training, and Practice
  • Practice for Therapeutic Applications
  • Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology in Yoga Therapy
  • Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics for Yoga Therapists
  • Client Assessment, Adaptation, and Personalized Practice
  • Practicum and Hands-On Clinical Experience

To uphold the highest standards of therapeutic education, each FYS Yoga Therapy program must assess the trainee’s competency before issuing a specialty certification.

Only those who demonstrate true proficiency in yoga therapy principles and application will be certified, ensuring that every graduate is fully prepared to safely and effectively integrate yoga into therapeutic settings.
